Additional Penalties
In addition to the above, there are two issues you need to worry about, depending on how many points you have on your license:
Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA): If you get six or more points on your license in a 24 month period, you will need to pay for a Driver Responsibility Assessment, which will cost $300 over the course of three years. This is in addition to all other penalties, including fines and points.
License Suspension: If you get ten or more points on your license in a 24 month period, you will face an automatic suspension of your license. This means if you receive an offense worth ten or more points, such as a DWI, your license will be suspended from a single offense. It also means you will not be able to legally drive until the suspension is lifted. This suspension will typically last between six and eighteen months, depending on the nature of the offense, and you will need to pay a suspension termination fee.
